WSC CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASSOCIATION: The WSC Criminal Justice Association is open to all criminal justice majors and minors.  The group's activities include field trips, visiting speakers, service projects, and preparation of seniors for the job market.  The WSC Criminal Justice Association activities this semester have included: co-sponsorship of "Understanding Prison Gangs" by Mr. Salvador (Sammy) Buentello of Texas, presentation of simulated crime scene scenarios, participation in the highway pick-up program, support of the CATS escort/watch program, and attendance at the Academy of Criminal Justice Science Convention, New Mexico, in March.  For more information contact Professor George Eichenberg, CH 200, (402) 375-7542 or Dr. Paul Campbell, CH 208, (402) 375-7292.

ALPHA PHI SIGMA, Xi Xi Xi CHAPTER: This criminal justice honorary was chartered at Wayne State College in the fall of. Requirements for membership are: have completed 42 hours of college credit courses, have a 3.0 GPA overall, and have a 3.2 GPA in the criminal justice major. The purpose of the honorary is to encourage academic excellence in criminal justice, social service, student support of the Wayne State College Social Sciences, and the development of leadership skills among its members. PHI ALPHA THETA (HISTORY HONORARY): Phi AJpha Theta is an organization which recognizes outstanding achievement in the discipline in history on the part of WSC students by membership and participation in a national honorary organization.  Membership in the Phi Alpha Theta is governed by the standards set by the national Board of Phi Alpha Theta.  Current requirements are a 3.01 GPA in a minimum of 12 hours of history courses, a 3.01 GPA in at least 2/3 of all non-history courses, and ranking in the top 1/3 of the member's class.  Faculty teaching history are automatically eligible for membership in Phi Alpha Theta.  For more information on Phi Alpha Theta contact Dr. Michael Blayney, Faculty Sponsor, CH 007, (402) 375-7295.

PSI CHI (PSYCHOLOGY HONORARY): The purpose of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship, and to advance the sciences in psychology.  Minimum requirements for undergraduate students include an overall GPA of 3.00, ranked in the upper 35% of their classes, and a GPA of 3.00 in psychology courses.  Members can be a psych major, minor, or have a psych endorsement as long as he/she has a minimum of 9 hours of psychology.  The student must also have completed two semesters at WSC.  For more information on joining Psi Chi, contact Dr. Dan Miller, Faculty Sponsor, CH 245, (402) 375-7456 or Dr. Karen Walker, Faculty Sponsor, CH 211, (402) 375-7457.  For further information on the Psi Chi organization, visit their website at  www.psichi.org.

PSYCHOLOGY CLUB: The Psychology Club is open to all students interested in psychology.  The Psychology Club was very active in 1997/98 having been involved in a number of activities, ranging from holding successful fijnd raisers to sponsoring guest speakers.  In the Fall, the club was involved in the following: WSC New Student Orientation; WSC Homecoming Carnival; Halloween pumpkin decorating party at Dr. Miller's house; Halloween party for the residents at the Wayne Care Center; Psychology Club Bowling Night; sponsoring Liberty Center guest speakers who presented on the topic of mental illness; T-shirt and bake sales.  In the Spring the organization assisted with the WSC Explore '98 Open House; co-sponsored two guest speaker presentations, one on prison gangs, the other on career opportunities in psychology; sponsored students who presented at the Great Plains Students' Psychology Convention held at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln; donated funds to support the Journal of Psychological Inquiry, which publishes student papers; hosted an informal discussion by WSC psychology faculty on their graduate school experiences; held a Valentine's Day bake sale; conducted an Easter party at the Wayne Care Center and the end-of-the-year party.  We welcome you to join the Psychology Club in the Fall 1998 semester.  You may contact Dr. Dan Miller, CH 245, (402) 375-7456, or Dr. Karen Walker CH 211, (402) 375-7457, for more information.

PI GAMMA MU (SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORARY): PGM received national recognition of its selection for the Pi Gamma Mu Roll of Distinction this year.  PGM encourages academic excellence in the social sciences, social service, student support for the WSC Social Sciences, and the development of leadership skills among its members.  Members do not need to have a major in the social sciences but must have completed at least 60 credit hours with a minimum of 20 hours in four core social sciences areas with a 3.0 GPA in those courses: history, political science, economics or geography, sociology, anthropology or psychology.  In addition members must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, rank in the upper 35% of their classes, and never have failed a social sciences course.  For more information about PGM and its activities contact our Faculty Sponsors: Dr. Randy Bertolas, CH 237, (402) 375-7018 or Dr. Jean Karlen, CH 101, (402) 375-7292.  Faculty treasurer is Dr. Ali Eminov.  Student President for Fall 2001 is Stacy Weber.

PGM ACTIVITIES: PGM members and sponsors have been involved in a variety of activities on campus during 2000/01.  They held a successful Homecoming Carnival Booth in October and a very successful book/bake sale in February, sponsored Graduate School Workshops in November and February, conducted initiation ceremonies in December and April, and held student/faculty bowling challenges in November and April.  Other activities included hosting a Student Senate Debate in February and assisting with the WSC Open House (Explore '01).  In addition to sponsoring these many activities, the honorary supported/co-sponsored the Geography Awareness speaker, Dr. Christina Dando in November as well as a Psychology Club speaker in April.

WAYNE POLITICAL UNION: WPU is a student organization whose primary purpose is to stimulate interest in current political issues and to provide a forum for discussing them.  Interested students should contact Dr. Blankenau, CH 219, (402) 375-7541 or Dr. Leeper, CH 215, (402) 375-7035 for more information.
