Announcement:
Wayne State College Service-Learning Program announces the availability of funding for faculty sub grants to support the integration of service-learning in their courses. Faculty grants are worth up to $500 each with an in-kind match.
 
These funds are made available through an institutional sub grant from the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education (MCSLHE) as part of a grant from the Corporation for National Service under the Learn and Serve America: Higher Education grant program. Monies may be used for travel, supplies, materials, receptions, student aides, etc. Restrictions may apply. See Federal Learn & Serve website for details or contact S-L @ WSC (375-7030).  
 
Sub grants will be awarded based on recommendations from WSC’s Faculty Advisory Committee.  Faculty who receive grants will be required to submit a final report with evaluation/student reflections and federally required demographic information.
 
Proposals should be sent to Jean Karlen, CH 240 (jekarle1@wsc.edu) or Dawn Hirschman, CH 101 (dahirsc1@wsc.edu).
 
Applications may be submitted at any time for spring or summer courses. Review process is approximately one week.
 
Proposal Content Guidelines:
  • Title Page including applicant name(s), department, course title and designation, date.          
  • Course Overview/Project Summary including:
    •  course description & objectives 
    •   a statement about the “community need(s)” to be addressed by the project and/or the community partners to be involved
    •   the proposed service-learning project with implementation plan
      • (project basics, estimated number of service-learning time involved for students, etc. with anticipated timeline)
    •  statement regarding how/when/who will provide the student orientation to service-learning
    • an evaluation statement about how project will be assessed by students/by faculty and whether the project contributed to achieving course objectives, include what will the student reflection component entail?
  • Course Syllabus:(if possible, include the S-L section that would be added if project funded) 
  • Budget Narrative: specify the amount of money requested and how the funds will be spent
