Applied Human and Sport
Physiology Major
-
This major provides students with a variety
of educational experiences in applied human and sport physiology, physical
science, and physical rehabilitation. The program of study is designed
to prepare students for graduate study/careers in athletic training, exercise
physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and through
advisement may provide an alternate route into allied health professional
schools. This major also provides strong training for individuals
who wish to work in health and fitness related professions.
The course offerings in Applied Human and
Sport Physiology are designed to:

provide the student with an understanding
of how to prevent, evaluate, and rehabilitate common musculoskeletal injuries.

allow the student to demonstrate competency
in conducting practical research including application of statistical procedures.

provide the student the skills necessary to
use technology for physical assessments and rehabilitation practices common
to the sports medicine field.
-
prepare students for graduate study and research
in the various fields included in applied human and sport physiology.

provide the students a strong training to
work in health and fitness related professions.
Recommended preparation:
-
Students considering this major should have
a minimum of:
-
1 year of biology
-
1 year of chemistry
-
3.0/4.0 high school GPA
-
ACT score of at least 25
Note:
-
Following program enrollment, students are
required to maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher to enroll in PED 389,
400, 470, 471, and 495.
-
A 2.75 cumulative GPA is required to graduate
from this program.
-
Computer requirement for the major will be
met with PED 487 Computer Applications in HHPS (3 cr).

Applied Human and
Sport Physiology Majors must also complete:

BIO 110 Biology Concepts
(4 credit hours) or its equivalent to satisfy the Life Sciences General
Education requirement.

CHE 106 General Chemistry
I (4) or equivalent to satisfy Physical Sciences General Education requirement.

MAT 116 College Algebra
with Trigonometry (3) or equivalent to satisfy Mathematics General Education
requirement.

PSY 101 General Psychology

Must hold a valid First
Aid and CPR Certification upon graduation
