Survey and Inventory of the Aquatic Macroinvertebrates
of the Selenge River drainage basin, Mongolia
Other research projects in Mongolia include:
- Dynamics of Biodiversity Loss and Permafrost Melt in Hovsgol National Park, Mongolia.
This project examines effects of land use practices on Lake Hovsgol
with the goal of providing sustainable land use practices for use by local
herders. This project is funded by the GEF and is led by Clyde
Goulden of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
- Conservation
and Ecology of the Yeroo Watershed. This project examines the ecology
of a watershed in North Central Mongolia and is led by Dr. Michael Muehlenberg, Centre for Nature Conservation, University
of Goettingen. Certain reaches of the Yeroo River Watershed are subjected
to intense loads of sediment resulting from mining activities, whereas other
reaches are relatively unperturbed by human activity. This combination
of range of impacts provides Dr. Muehlenberg and his colleagues a chance
to establish patterns of disturbance in both the aquatic and terrestrial
habitat of the watershed and to establish conservation plans.
- Diversity of diatoms, ostracodes, and chironomids of saline lakes in
Western Mongolia. This project shall document diversity and ecology
of select taxa the extreme saline environments found in closed basin lakes
in Western Mongolia. It is led by Mark Edlund, Associate Scientist with the Science Museum of Minnesota.
- Biodiversity Studies in Mongolia are profiled by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
