Laws and Regulations
There is no specific law or regulation that requires animal testing for
cosmetic safety.
The U.S. Food and
Drug Administration however, does encourage companies to conduct
whatever tests
they feel needed in order to ensure their products are safe and effective.
Certain Acts, such
as the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Art, were established in order
to make sure products
were safe and protection the overall health of the consumer’s.
The FDA says they stick to the laws and regulations on animal testing such
as the
Animal Welfare
Act and the Public health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of
Laboratory Animals.
They claim to get the best scientific results by using the least
possible amount
of animals while still applying all the human aspects.
There are other certain provisions and regulations that industries must
follow in
order to be able
to test on animals. There is a lot involved in this process.
From the
beginning a company
or scientists must first apply and when approved they still have to
follow many regulations.
To get a better understanding of this click on the following web
site: Public
Health Service Policy. This points out all the regulations and
goes through
the complete process
of animal testing.
Even though the government does not require cosmetic indutries to test
their
products on animals
it does, however, require experiments on animals before pharmaceuticals
can
be marketed.
