Guiding Philosophy--"No matter how good a teacher is in the classroom or laboratory, he, or she can improve. No matter how effective a particular teaching method, it can be enhanced." (Seldin,1995)

Teaching Philosophy:  To help clarify your conception of teaching, you may want to start by preparing or revising your personal teaching philosophy.

The Art of Teaching--a specific skill in adept performance, conceived as requiring the exercise of of intuitive faculties that cannot be learned solely by study*.

Teaching as a Craft---skill or ability; expertness in teaching*.

As the research on student learning accumulates, we are learning that great teachers and no different than outstanding pilots or skillful surgeons.  In each case they are not born that way, rather, drawing on the natural talents they might posses, they study and practice to become "great" teachers.   If we accept the fact that you are not born a great teacher, then like any other artist or craftsman, a teacher must continue to practice, seek out colleagues that will evaluate their teaching, as well as keeping up with the technology and the research on teaching and learning.
