Teaching Excellence Award
1999 Guidelines
Eligibility
All full time faculty with a
minimum of four years continuous employment at a State College and teaching a minimum of 1
5 credit hours during the academic year shall be considered eligible for nomination for
the Nebraska State College System Teaching Excellence Award (award). Previous award
recipients are not eligible.
Nominating and Application Procedures
1. A faculty member
may be nominated for the award by other faculty members, academic administrators, students
or alumni. A faculty member may not be nominated by a relative or spouse; or place his/her
own name in nomination.
2. Nomination forms
and procedures are available online at the CITE, or through the Office of the Vice
President for Academic Affairs (VP) at the College. Dissemination of information relative
to the award, including all deadlines, will be undertaken by the VP of the College, with
the assistance of the State College System Office.
3. All nomination forms
must be turned in to the office of the VP or his/her designate by November 20, 1998.
Nominees will be notified by December 4, 1998, of their nomination, the source and the
criteria to be met for the award.
4. It is the responsibility of
the nominating party, in cooperation with the nominee, to complete the application process
upon notification from the VP.
5. All supporting
materials for the application must be filed by the nominee or his/'her sponsor(s) with a
campus review committee, to be determined by the campus President and Academic Vice
President, by January 15, 1999.
6. All applications should
include the following materials:
An original nomination form
At least three but not more than four letters of support
The nominee's supporting materials:
a personal statement
a resume or vita
a list of awards and honors
evidence of innovation and leadership in teaching and public service
Summaries of student evaluations
The nominee or his/her
supporters may also submit additional information or material, which supports the
principles or the criteria for the award. Please note the Format Guidelines for
submission. Course syllabi are not required.
7. The Campus Review
Committee will review the applications and comment on each, relative to the candidates'
qualifications for the award. They will rank the candidates and recommend one as the
candidate from the College. The applications of all candidates will be forwarded to the
Academic VP for review and comment by February 5, 1999.
8. Upon receipt of all
complete applications, the VP will review all applications and comment on each, relative
to the candidates' qualifications for the award.
9. The VP will, upon
completion of the review process, forward to the President of the College all applications
of qualifying faculty. The president will undertake a final review of the applications and
submit one candidate from the College to the System Office for forwarding to the Academic
Affairs Subcommittee of the Board. Should the Academic VP and/or President not concur with
the Campus Committee, the recommendation will be returned to the Committee for
reconsideration. Each applicant will be formally notified of the status of his/her
nomination following the President's review. All materials filed by the applicant will be
returned to him/her by the end of the academic year in which he/she applied.
10. The Presidential
Report will be filed with the Board of Trustees by February 19, 1999. Final
recommendations by the Board will be made by April 1. Board recommendations will be
forwarded to the Lincoln Foundation at that time. The 1998 recipient will be announced on
April 30. The award will be presented to the recipient during spring commencement
activities on campus, and officially by the Board of Trustees on May 14, 1999.
