"Diversity is not about lowering standards; it is about creating ways for all students to meet the standards of academic excellence."  Judy A. Green, 1995 TTDdivsm.gif (3004 bytes)
The draft diversity plan for Wayne State College (1998-2002)  has been developed and is available for review by selecting "Diversity Plan" in the left column.  Named "Building Community," this plan demonstrates our commitment to preparing our students for the multiethnic, multicultural ,and global society they will be entering.  In keeping with our college's goals and commitments, we at The CITE are dedicated to addressing the issues of diversity, and supporting and encouraging the members of our faculty to do likewise. Please note that when we use the term "diversity," we are using it in a broad context  As a result, this section of the CITE includes information not only on race and gender, but also students with disabilities, sexual orientation, and religious and social diversity.  This section of the CITE has been designed to serve as a one stop source for faculty with questions about diversity issues and teaching.  Search this section for information on everything from the legal statutes to on campus organizations that can assist you with diversity issues.

Summary of information in the Diversity section:

RESOURCES: Need to read the legal statutes for accommodating students with disabilities?  What is the correct statement to put on a syllabus for identifying students with disablilites? Need statistics on families? How about guest speakers for your class? Check out the "resources page" first!
