PED 490 Project 2
DUE DATE: November 20, 2001

This project deals with the management skills necessary to design and run an efficient athletic training room.

This will consist of designing an athletic training room "from scratch".  You received the job from the first project and are now being allowed to build/remodel.  For the purposes of this project, the building structure (exterior walls) is already up, but you have to decide where everything inside of those walls goes.  You have to stay within a reasonable budget.  If that is a problem, you will need to redesign, and get creative, because I will return the project and give you a fixed budget that you need to stay under.  Creative ideas to fund with external sources are also encouraged.  Along with the facility design, you will also need to turn in a paper justifying your expenses (do plenty of research to find the best quality at the lowest price) and explaining the reasons for your floor plan.  The paper should also include the facilities vision and mission statements, along with the operational policies, processes, and procedures.  The type of budget used needs to be explained, as well as how the employees will be motivated, evaluated, and conflicts resolved.  What type of system will be used to manage information?  Who is on the "team"?  Who orders supplies, and when? etc...  As you can see this is a very large project, so don't wait until a week before the due date to start it.  It should be prepared and presented (to entire class) in a thorough and professional format!  Good luck, and as always don't be afraid to ask questions, should you need help!

Download this word document to receive an idea of the location of your facility.  You need to purchase a posterboard to design your facility to scale on.  The facility has dimensions of 70 by 40 feet.  The track, bleachers, courts, parking lot, and locker rooms are not to scale, they are just to let you know where they are in reference to the training room.  You need to place any windows, walls, doors, closets, rooms, etc. in the appropriate place.  Justify your placement in your paper that will assist in “defending” your design.  You also need to include the location of any plumbing and electrical outlets.  The names, brands, and prices of the equipment need to be included in the paper, and their position shown on the design layout.  Use your imagination and be creative!  GOOD LUCK!

This downloadable word document shows a broad spectrum grading format that has been used in the past for this project.
