Course Description:
An introduction to the techniques of evaluation and assessment of human needs, interests and performance in the wellness field.  A "B" grade is required for the Exercise Science majors.

Advanced Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription, Fourth Edition (ISBN: 0736040161). Vivian H. Heyward. Human Kinetics pub. 2002.
Course Objectives:
  1. To provide the student with an understanding of hypokinetic disease and the role that physical activity and regular exercise play in reducing its prevalence.
  2. To familiarize the student with the knowledge and procedures associated with pre-exercise screening and related client classification as outlined by the American College of Sports Medicine.
  3. To provide the student with the knowledge and experience to competently assess and classify cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
  4. To provide the student with the knowledge and experience to devise scientifically sound exercise prescriptions for a variety of populations.
  5. To provide the student with a variety of laboratory experiences which are designed to build confidence and familiarity with common physical fitness tests.
  6. To provide the student with the knowledge associated with successful exercise programming and its relation to exercise adherence.
