Course Description:
A program designed to expose majors to experimental training in both lab and fitness-testing situations.  Must be taken as two separate 2-hour practicums.  May be repeated after the requirements have been  completed.

  • Course Objectives:
    1. To provide the student with the knowledge associated with the guidelines for pre exercise screening, physical fitness assessment, and exercise prescription as outlined by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
    2. To provide the student with experience and confidence in administering and interpreting common physical fitness tests which measure cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, body composition, and stress.
    3. To provide the student with the knowledge and experience to conduct a graded exercise test using a 12-lead electrocardiogram monitoring system.
    4. To provide the student with an understanding and appreciation for the research process as evidenced by the completion of a laboratory research project.
    5. To familiarize the student with the ACSM certification program.
