Course Description:
An individualized prescribed fitness activity course based upon the assessment results in PED 103. Students will be able to establish an individualized personal fitness program. Various activities and skills will be provided. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive program of physical fitness to prepare individuals toward physical fitness and to provide an adequate background for physical fitness and wellness.

Course Goals/Objectives:
The course activities, experiences, assignments and sequence are intended to provide opportunities for class members to accomplish the following:

The student will:

  1. Develop and set up your own fitness program.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of self evaluation fitness tests for monitoring progress in various fitness categories.
  3. Experience an improvement in your fitness level.
  4. Develop an awareness of proper methods to develop your fitness needs.
  5. Develop fitness goals that may be periodically compared and tested throughout the class and the remainder of your lifetime.
  6. Be able to adjust training program and goals needed.
  7. Demonstrate a knowledge of correct training techniques.
  8. Use the library for necessary information for assigned abstracts of the student's choice.
Attendance and Assignment Policies:
Class attendance and participation are an absolute necessity for a class of this nature. Roll will be taken daily and regular attendance is expected. You will be allowed ONLY 3 unexcused absences. For each class session missed beyond these three, you will go down a grade, plus lose the attendance points possible for each class session. Please try to notify me prior to class if you will be absent. No excuses for late assignments will be accepted. Always come dressed appropriately to participate in exercise on time. A minimum of 20 minutes should be spent conditioning your cardiovascular system & 15-20 minutes spent muscular training.

Course Content: Students take this course as a basic individualized prescribed fitness activity class. A daily log of workouts performed must be kept and turned in periodically for me to evaluate. Also, three abstracts relating to fitness and/or exercise topics will need to be submitted. These abstracts should include a copy of the article, if not more than two to three pages long, and a one page, typed and double spaced summary including your personal reaction of the material. All logs and abstracts are to be compiled into a bound folder or three ring notebook. Neatness and Organization are greatly appreciated and rewarded!!

Course Evaluation:
Attendance and individual effort (30 class sessions @ 5 points each) 150 points
Daily log/evaluation of program (turned in every 4 weeks):
  • Weeks 1-4 (including personal goals in detail) = 25 points
  • Weeks 5-8 = 25 points
  • Weeks 9-12 = 25 points
  • Weeks until final class period = 25 points
  • Overall (organized and neat in binder) = 25 points
