"You must complete a minimum of 12 hours of job shadowing of a professional in the field that you are interested in pursuing. After completing this project you are also required to prepare a typed paper describing your experience. A brief presentation will also be presented to the class.
Here is a quote from a student that completed a shadowing project:
"Shadowing is an excellent program for those interested in discovering what they want to do with their future. I learned a lot about myself as well as the organization."There are numerous advantages to job shadowing and finding an appropriate mentor in the field that you wish to someday enter, including (but in no way limited to):

- To began networking within a field
- Gaining first-hand experience

- After finding a prospective mentor and site/professional to shadow, the student can gain hours at the arranged time that works for both the student and the site/professional. I encourage all students to shadow for more than 12 hours, if possible. The mentor shall also complete, sign, and date the evaluation of the student, upon completion of a minimum of 12 hours of shadowing. Click here for the MENTOR EVALUATION SHEET
- After completion of a minimum of 10 hours, the student must type a paper discussing the experiences gained during the shadowing. This should include
- Justification/purpose for the type of shadowing that occurred
- Experiences encountered
- Mentors role played
- Knowledge gained
- Future plans regarding career choices to this point
- Etc...
- A brief verbal presentation may also be required upon completion of the shadowing to peers on a date set by the instructor during class time.
