Course Description:
This course is designed to assess the many areas of lifestyle to include the cardiovascular system, flexibility and strength, nutrition, stress, risk factors, alcohol, drugs and tobacco. This course will encourage regular physical activity and all other activities and consumptions that contribute to a high quality lifestyle, including medical self care and appropriate use of the medical system. This course is a prerequisite for PED 203 and other activity courses.A Note To Teacher Education Students:
The intellectual thrust of all teacher education programs on the Wayne State campus centers around reflection and inquiry. This course affords you an opportunity to improve at both by reflecting on Wellness, Fitness, and Health and inquiring into issues, and lifestyle choices that will support your future as a professional educator.Course Objectives:
The course lectures, labs and assignments are intended to provide students with opportunities to gain information and accomplish self assessments in the following areas:Textbook:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the factors which can and will influence their physical and mental health throughout the course of their lives.
- Demonstrate evaluation procedures for self assessment of both physical and mental aspects of health and wellness.
- Be able to make informed decisions regarding personal lifestyle choices.
- Be able to make informed decisions regarding health and wellness services, products and public policy.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the benefits achievable through positive lifestyle choices.
