Dr. Timothy Sharer
Timothy J. Sharer is Associate Professor of Education
at Wayne State College, a position he has held since 1997. Dr. Sharer's
teaching responsibilities include Secondary Schools, Human Relations in
a Multicultural Society, Current Issues and Trends in Education, Classroom
Management, and Student Teaching Supervision. His administration and committee
duties in the School of Education and Counseling include Co-Coordinating
the Northeast Nebraska Teacher Academy (NENTA),
chairing the Department of Secondary Education, serving as Chair of the
Professional Progress Committee, serving as a member of the SOE&C Curriculum
Committee, and representing the School for Senior Preview Days held annually
each Fall on campus. His college service includes serving on the campus-wide
Student Admissions and Retention Committee, and the campus-wide Safety
Committee. He is completing his sixth year teaching at Wayne State
after 21 years as a public school music educator. Dr. Sharer taught instrumental
music part-time at the Wayne Middle School, taught and coached at Wymore
Southern Junior-Senior High School, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
as a graduate assistant in Opera and Choral Music, taught music methods
at Dana College in Blair, and from 1982-1995 was Director of Choral Activities
and Chair of the Department of Music at Lincoln Southeast High School in
Lincoln, Nebraska. From 1995 to 1997, Dr. Sharer was Associate Professor
of Music at Wayne State where he served as Director of Choral Activities,
taught both undergraduate and graduate studio voice, directed the Concert
Choir, Madrigal Singers, founded and directed the Men's Chorus and Scatology
(a vocal jazz ensemble), was producer/director and scriptwriter for the
Elizabethan Christmasse Feastes, taught Choral Conducting, Teaching Vocal
Music 7-12 and graduate courses in music education, choral literature and
choral conducting. In 1997-99, Sharer served on the Executive Board of
the Nebraska Music Educators Association as Chair of College and University
Affairs and Chair of the Nebraska Council for Music Teacher Education.
He continues to serve on the Executive Board of Nebraska Music Educators
Association as Director of the Nebraska Music Mentor Program and chair
of Tri-M Music Honorary. In the Spring of 1999, Sharer served on
the Nebraska Department of Education Rule 24 Revision team. This
group revised the current content coursework included in secondary and
elementary teaching endorsements offered by Nebraska colleges and
universities. In 1998, Dr. Sharer was selected to Who's Who
Among America's Teachers.
Dr. Sharer and his wife Beth Ann are both graduates
of Wayne State College with degrees in music education. Between them, they
have spent over 40 years teaching music in Nebraska schools. They have
one son, Corbin, a junior at Wayne High School. Mrs. Sharer works at the
Wayne Public Library and First Baptist Church. They are active in church
and school activities. Dr. Sharer received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in
Education degree from Wayne State College. His Master of Music degree
is from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he specialized in Vocal
Performance/Pedagogy, Choral Music and Opera. His Doctor of Philosophy
in Curriculum and Instruction is also from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Sharer is a respected arranger of popular music and is particularly known
for his arrangements of vocal jazz standards.
