Professional Progress Committee
The role of the Professional Progress Committee (PPC)
is to support, assist, and mentor pre-professional majors in the
School of Education and Counseling. The committee consists of Wayne
State College faculty from the four Schools, and representatives
from the K-12 area schools. The PPC meets at least once a month
to assist the Director of Field Experience in continuously monitoring
the progress of Teacher Education majors and those students who
seek admission to Teacher Education.
Requirements for admission to Teacher Education and
for continuation in the program of Teacher Education include maintaining
a GPA of 2.5 in all coursework and specificlly in the professional
education and endorsement area coursework. Education majors must
pass the Praxis Professional Skills Test (PPST) and obtain the recommendations
of professors in their major fields, of professors who teach Foundations
courses in the School of Education and Counseling, and of a professor
from one of the Schools outside the School of Education and Counseling.
During the course of their undergraduate preparation, Nebraska state
law requires that all future teachers complete a minimum of 100
hours of field experience. At the end of their pre-professional
programs, teacher of education majors spend at least one semester
in directed teaching in a school classroom.
Questions about the Professional Progress Committee
can be directed to the Office of the Field Experience.
