Student Handbook - Benchmarks and Gateways

Admission to Wayne State College does not guarantee entry into its teacher education programs. Students planning to pursue professional education must meet benchmark criteria at multiple stages in order to pass through established Gateways. It is the student’s responsibility to confirm with the Field Experience Office that
adequate progress has been made on each benchmark.

Application for Gateway Approval
Students must apply for approval as they approach each programmatic gateway. This must be done one semester before a student plans to take coursework that requires approval. Deadlines for application are October 15 and February 15. Gateway four requires successful completion of all course work, including student
teaching, and will lead to graduation and application for Nebraska teaching certification.
